NEW BATCH | Goodful’s Red Walnuts


Red walnuts were developed at UC Davis in 1991. They are *not* genetically modified but instead were developed by grafting Howard walnuts (creamy English walnut) and Purpurea walnuts (Persian red-skinned walnuts). Our red walnuts are organically grown in the greater Sacramento area and are shelled by hand. These delicious nuts’ skin runs from a light to deep burgundy and has an ivory-colored meat that’s sweet and creamy and has no trace of bitterness that’s normally associated with walnuts. Red walnuts should be shelled by hand in order to avoid damaging the rich dark burgundy skin. These delicious, nutritious little goodies won’t last – so get yours now! This is a seasonal offering and quantities are limited.

Great as a healthy snack. Use in trail mix, granola & baked goods. Sprinkle on top of salads fro a punch of color & flavor. Pair with roasted root veggies. Or make a walnut pesto!

Red walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, specifically alpha-linolenic acid, which boosts memory, concentration, and cognitive function. Red Walnuts have a high concentration of anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that helps reduce inflammation and fight free radicals in the body. This is unique to the variety due to its red skin. The nuts are also a rich source of vitamins and minerals known to support the brain and the immune system, including vitamin E, copper, selenium, iron, and niacin.
